st. frANCIS HALL

WASHINGTON, DC

Nestled in a quiet neighborhood of our nation's capital for more than a century, the historic Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America is a peaceful oasis in a bustling city.  Lush gardens and meandering walkways, a stunning church and colonnaded cloister walk reflect the prayerful spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.

Envisioned as a pilgrimage site for individuals who cannot travel to the Holy Land, the Franciscan Monastery is a destination for visitors from around the world.  The 42-acre property includes full-scale replicas of the sacred shrines of the Holy Land, bringing alive the 800-year ministry of the Franciscan friars in that region.  As they have since the time of St. Francis of Assisi, the friars tend to the Holy Land's sacred shrines and people, providing spiritual and pastoral care, education, and social services.

Visit the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

On 2-4 May 2024, Manfred Honeck will conduct Brucner’s Ninth Symphony as violinist Nuit Bar-Josef plays Beethoven’s Overture to Fidelio and Romances Nos. 1 & 2. Honeck, whose 2020 recording of Bruckner’s Ninth earned him three Grammy nominations, presents the gripping unfinished work live to D.C. audiences in our favorite date spot. The Kennedy Center is the nation’s busiest performing arts center, hosting upwards of 2,000 events each year. Much more than a collection of theaters, the views of the Potomac River from the roof terrace are second to none.

The National Mall is America's most visited national park, where the past, present and future come together. The monuments and memorials in this park honor American forefathers and heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country.

Explore Brookland

Home to The Catholic University of America, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the St. John Paul II National Shrine, the John Paul II Institute, the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America and the Dominican House of Studies, just to name a few, it is no wonder the neighborhood attracts Catholic sightseers in droves.
